About me and my therapy practice
Hello! My name is Rowena, usually known as Ro and I've been a counsellor for 18+ years now. I am an integrative therapist - that means I have skills in a variety of counselling styles - depending on what the client brings. This includes person centred counselling as well as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
I feel that therapy should fit the client, you the individual rather than the client having to fit to a particular model. I have worked in GP practice with adults with all sorts of different issues as well as community settings. I also have extensive experience of working in educational settings with teenagers and young adults.
I would say that I work mostly with anxiety and stress and trying to help those I work with find some clarity, to make sense of life. Its too easy to look back and worry about the things that you did in the past but you can't change. I believe passionately that it is possible to live your best life but it takes effort, and commitment. If you are interested in finding out how you got to where you are and how things can be different going forward, lets work towards making those changes.
Practice description
I work in a number of ways - face to face from my purpose built log cabin in south Devon. I also offer online counselling via zoom, or by phone. I don't offer text or email counselling. I work in a very gentle way, at a pace that suits you. I believe that you are the expert on yourself - what you want, what you can achieve and equally what isn't good for you. Sometimes it takes a while to uncover this expertise - it might be buried under layers of what other people want from you. Its a combined effort - both of us doing the work but I will support you all the way to achieve your potential.
We do this by making a plan or setting a goal - its not set in stone, but its useful to have some idea of what you want to get out of therapy. We review this goal every few weeks (say 6 weeks) and see if its still what you want to get out of counselling. These things can change over time. I usually ask clients to commit to at least 6 sessions but these can be spread out over two weekly intervals if that's more convenient. Once we have an idea of what you want to get out of counselling, then we work together to identify the pieces - its a bit like working on a jigsaw and putting you back together into the you that you want to be.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute session. This gives us both the chance to decide if we feel that we can work together. At this point there is no commitment on either side and if I don't feel that my skill set is going to be the best for you then I'll let you know and perhaps suggest someone else who may be more suitable. Again, this short 'get to know you' session can be done face to face or via zoom or phone.
Once we decide we can work together, the first full session will be charged for. I will complete an assessment at this point and we'll start to identify your priorities for therapy - what you want to get out of it. I'll then start to put together a plan which we can look at to see if its what you want - if not then we change it - its your therapy.

Availability
I currently have availability for supervisees. My daytime appointments are on Mondays and Thursdays between 8.30am and 7.00pm.
I also offer evening appointments from 5.30pm, last appointment time is 7.30pm - Monday to Thursday
About me and my therapy practice
I offer supervision to suit the individual's needs. My training model and most of my practice is Person Centred. I also work using Time Limited, Brief Therapy and CBT. The supervision I offer reflects this held within a framework of using Hawkins and Shohet's 7 Eyed Model.
Supervision can be face to face, or over Zoom, or a combination of both. Its good to experience supervision in the way that you offer therapy. I'm happy to work in a creative way if that suits what you are looking for.
Practice description
I work from my log cabin on the south coast of Devon, just outside Plymouth. I'm happy to offer supervision face to face or over video platform - I use Zoom. I have trained specifically to offer both counselling and supervision in this way as there are some areas that are unique to working in an online way.
If you'd like to find out more, please get in touch. I'm happy to offer a free 30 minute no obligation zoom session to see if our skill sets match and whether we feel that we can work together.
My first session
Prior to starting work with a new supervisee, I always offer a free 30 minute session. Then if it feels like we want to work together then I will send you a copy of a supervision contract to complete.
