About me and my therapy practice

I have over 25 years experience as a therapist and supervisor.

I offer one to one brief or long term therapeutic support. I am dedicated to my work and my clients, trying to help them to move forward and effect any changes which will improve their lives and situations.  I always seek to enlarge my knowledge and I read widely. I am very empathic and believe that with the right support everyone can be helped. I am interested in different cultures and belief systems and respectful of all.  I also have a particular interest in supporting clients or their carers who have been diagnosed or have traits of aspergers.

Practice description

I have a small careful, selected private practice and aim to empower my clients to resolve not only current problems but also develop their ability to manage any future or past issues.

I encourage clients to look at their past if it is impacting on their present problems, and I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to help them move forward.

I worked with a charitable based organisation for over 20 years and have also worked in my private practice for over 20 years .

I trained at the Central School for Counselling and Therapy in London and I am accredited with the BACP.

My first session

In the first session I initially discuss the contract between us so that my client understands my commitment to them. I attempt to forge a good counselling relationship between us. I encourage my clients to ask as many questions about my training and experience as they want. We usually begin by  exploring the reasons that they have chosen to come to counselling. At no point is there any commitment to future sessions, and my client can have as few or as many sessions as they want. In subsequent sessions I encourage my clients to share their problems and work towards a successful outcome.

About me and my therapy practice

I have been supervising since gaining my Supervision Diploma in 2004. I have worked both privately and in a charitably based organisatio. I have worked individually and with groups. I have supervised counselling students and qualified counsellors as well as other qualified supervisors. My sessions are a full 60 or 90 minutes.

I work integratively with person Centered, existential, transactional analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as my core paradigms.

Practice description

I work in private practice from my home office. I divide my time between supervision and counselling in order to remain grounded.

I  prefer to keep my practice small as I feel that this offers the best quality to both clients and supervisees.

I am very supportive of my supervisees and I am considerate of  their health and welfare as I understand that this effects their ability to work well.  I want them to feel assured of equality in our relationship,I believe that the best supervision should feel useful and supportive.  I am very aware of the extra responsablities that supervision entails. I am available outside of my normal working hours for supervisees to discuss any urgent problems that have arisen.

I am flexible regarding appointments and try to always accommodate supervisees as I am aware that they may have many other issues they may have to consider. I encourage open and honest discussions in the work and offer support at all times.

I encourage discussions around ethical dilemmas and encourage all supervisees, whether in training, recently post training or experienced, to develop their own style.

My first session

My first session is initially spent discussing my contract and explaining how I feel good supportive supervision should work.

I encourage the supervisee to ask as many questions about my qualifications and experience as they want.

I hope to foster a comfortable working relationship and begin to look at the supervisees work with their clients and the organisation, that those who are not in private practice work with  . In this first session I understand that some supervisees may have issues they urgently need to discuss and I am mindful of this.

Although I am an experienced supervisor I ensure that my work is always up to date  and I take continued professional development very seriously.
