About me and my therapy practice

'People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be'

(Carl Rogers, 'A Way of Being')

I'm a person-centred counsellor with experience in working with many different life issues.  In person-centred work, we believe that you are the expert on yourself and will be able to find your own solutions when you have the space and support to work things through at your own pace.

Life can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster and whilst change can often feel exciting and welcome, at other times it can feel overwhelming.

Our often frantic pace of life can sometimes leave us feeling as though there's no option but to put overwhelming thoughts 'away' so that we can carry on, no matter how different or strange our lives have become.

Talking things through with someone, allowing yourself a moment to breathe and giving your own voice a time to be heard can be helpful in finding your feet again.

My aim is to provide a warm, welcoming, supportive and non-judgemental space for anyone looking to take the first steps into finding fulfilment and connection either within themselves or with others. We all differ in that our life journeys are unique but we are also the same in that we are all human and finding a connection with our own voices can ease some of the anxiety and tension in our lives.

Practice description

I work in a person-centred way, which acknowledges you as the expert on yourself.   We explore any issues you may bring in a non-judgemental, safe and peaceful space - allowing  you to find and value your own voice in all the 'noise' of everyday demands.  Our work together will be a journey taken at very much your own pace.

I currently work from peaceful and confidential spaces in Ripon and Thirsk but am also able to work over the phone or using video call.

Please get in touch by email and I'll get back to you within 24 hours to arrange an initial appointment.

My first session

I offer a free 20-30 minute introductory appointment on the phone.  During this session we can explore together the things that are worrying you and what you are hoping to gain from your counselling journey.  It will also involve a short assessment so that I can decide how to support you in the best and safest way and look for a good starting point in our work together.

Sessions can be either weekly or fortnightly.  They are generally 60 minutes and can be held either in person, over the phone or on Zoom.
