We’re supporting this year’s Youth Voice Census survey so children and young people’s views can inform our campaigning work.

The annual survey, carried out by Youth Employment UK, provides the most comprehensive temperature check of how young people are feeling about a range of issues, including their mental health.

Direct evidence

Last year more than 5,000 young people aged between 11 and 30 took part in the survey. The findings help inform policy changes and decisions by providing direct evidence from young people on their specific concerns, challenges and barriers.

This year we’ve helped develop questions on mental health and wellbeing. These include questions about the support offered to and used by young people, and its accessibility. We’ve also contributed to questions about key transitions, such as moving from primary to secondary school and to university, and about assessment related stress and anxiety.

Increasing demand

Dr Lisa Morrison Coulthard, our Director of Professional Standards, Policy and Research, said: “We’re excited to be a sponsor of the Youth Voice Census for 2025.  We know from our members that there’s an increasing demand for mental health support for children and young people. But the voices of children and young people themselves are sometimes missing from our work. Adding their insight to what we do will be extremely valuable.

Fuller picture

“The survey responses will help us to form a fuller picture of the mental health of young people and the importance of ensuring timely access to counselling and psychotherapy. This supports our campaigning work and our agenda to support young people’s mental health, improve outcomes and increase paid employment for counsellors.”

The survey is open until 6 June.

Young people aged between 11 and 30 can take part in the Youth Voice Census survey on the organisation’s website.
