The support stage for the 2024 AGM motions closed on Friday 16 August. We’re pleased to announce that both motions met the required level of support and will move forward to the final ballot at this year’s AGM on Thursday 7 November.

We appreciate all members who participated in this year’s process - whether by submitting a motion or resolution or showing support during the support phase. Now, as we approach the AGM ballot, we encourage all members to use their votes. We’ll be in touch with more information about ballot voting soon.

Motions

Motions need the support of 0.1% of the membership to be put to a vote at the AGM. Both motions put forward this year received the required support to progress to the voting stage.

Motion 1

This motion proposes that the BACP undertakes a review of the evidence base in relation to trauma practice, develops competences and a training curriculum to support trainers, and establishes a specialist trauma practice accreditation scheme. This aims to enhance the competency and sensitivity of counsellors and psychotherapists in addressing trauma-related issues.

918 members (1.3%) supported this motion.

Motion 2

That BACP takes a lead in encouraging improved access to appropriate therapy for marginalised, highly-challenged parents - those who experience barriers to accessing appropriate counselling. Here the complex interplay between psychological needs and life challenges suggests that a more flexible helping model needs to emerge and be supported.

1191 members (1.7%) supported this motion.
