TV favourites Ant and Dec say it’s more important than ever that we keep talking to support people’s mental health during the coronavirus crisis.
The pair said that we’ve “never needed each other more” as they ended their popular programme Saturday Night Takeaway.
Speaking in front of an empty studio, Dec said: “Chances are you’ve just watched the show at home, a place where we’re all going to be spending a bit more time over the next few weeks.”
Keep talking
Ant said: “Now more of us will be apart, or by ourselves, than ever before and it’s going to be harder for some of us than it is for others.
Dec added: “Which is why it’s never been more important that we keep talking. Just hearing someone’s voice has been shown to reduce anxiety and de-stress.”
And Ant said: “So if there’s someone you can’t be with right now pick up the phone and show you care. Reach out to the ones who need it most.”
The Geordie duo encouraged people to share their videos and messages online, with some being broadcast on TV if they’re selected by producers.
They also encouraged the use of the hashtag #BritainGetTalking on social media for people to stay in contact.
