Join us for this new event which aims to increase your knowledge and provide updates on the latest developments in adoption counselling. This change in guidance affects those working in England but theoretical content may be of interest to those working across all four nations.
During the session, you’ll gain insights into the lived experience of an adoptive client and understand what these changes may mean for clients in the future.
The event is aimed at all counsellors and practitioners who’d like to commence working with adult adopted clients (now or in the future) or continue the therapeutic relationship if adoption related issues arise in therapy.
It may also be relevant for training providers as we’ll discuss what’s next for BACP in this area. There are plans to develop an adoption competence framework, training curriculum to support training providers and good practice guidance resources in the future.
Event aims
The event aims to:
- develop an understanding of working with adult adopted clients either from the start of the therapeutic relationship or if adoption related issues arise during the therapy session
- gain a perspective of an adopted client’s experiences and what these changes to regulation will mean for clients in the future
- understand the reform of Ofsted requirements around counselling and adopted people and what this means to counsellors and clients
- have an understanding of what’s next for BACP in this area
