The lived experience of counsellors delivering talking therapy outdoors

My research

Hi, my name is Simon; I’m a qualified counsellor currently studying an MSc in Advanced Counselling and Psychotherapy studies at Salford University. I’m undertaking research approved by the Salford University ethics panel into the lived experience of counsellors delivering talking therapy outdoors.

The study is interested in:

• your experiences of walk-and-talk therapy

• your motivation for offering that space to clients

• how you understand or experience nature and any support it lends to the therapy

• how you have come to understand the integration of walking and talking with any chosen modality

• how you experience the therapeutic relationship in an outdoor setting

• your understanding of the impact of working outdoors for your clients.

Inclusion Criteria

If working outside resonates with you, you can volunteer an hour of your time to help my research, and you meet the following inclusion criteria …

“qualified with a minimum of a level 4 diploma in counselling and at least three years of post-qualification experience within private practice or an agency setting working directly with clients outdoors in a therapeutic capacity in a style of therapy often referred to as walk and talk”

…. I’d be very interested to hear from you.

How, can you get involved?

The research will take the form of an online semi-structured interview, lasting approximately one hour, during which we will explore your experiences of Walk and Talk therapy. The interview will last around an hour and will take place on Zoom. If you are interested, please contact me by email (s.p.oliver@edu.salford.ac.uk), and I’ll send you further details and a consent form.

Kindest regards

Simon
