Person-Centred counsellors’ experiences of therapeutic self-disclosure (TSD) of psychological problems- an interpretive phenomenological study.
We are undertaking research into person-centred counsellors’ experiences of therapeutic self-disclosure (TSD) of psychological problems.
Therapeutic self-disclosure remains a controversial topic in contemporary counselling. Research in this area has previously focussed on client perceptions of therapeutic self-disclosure and this study aims to explore counsellors’ experiences of therapeutic self-disclosure of psychological problems to clients.
Emma Bebb is a final year student of the Master of Science (MSc) Applied Psychology at The Robert Gordon University. This third year project will contribute towards her MSc Applied Psychology.
Purpose: The study attempts to explore the experiences of person-centred counsellors who have undertaken therapist self-disclosure with clients
Participant requirements: The study requires participants who are BACP accredited counsellors of at least 2 years-experience (as this allows time to build up more advanced counselling skills and gain experience of using therapist self-disclosure). Trainee counsellors are excluded from the study.
Participation involves: Participants are required to undertake an online interview lasting approximately 1 hour.
