Dr Olivia Sagan discusses the impact of the loneliness epidemic in our modern society and the complexities of working with loneliness from a phenomenological approach. She reflects on the multifaceted nature of loneliness and highlights factors which may contribute to or ameliorate an individual’s sense of loneliness.

Black Men on the Couch: anxiety and Black men

Rotimi Akinsete interviews Wayne Mertins-Brown on his experiences with racial anxiety. Wayne gives a personal and compelling account of his firsthand experiences navigating multiple identities across different spaces. He shares how he first came out and how this created tensions within his parental relationships and their heteronormative expectations of him.

Understanding and working with postnatal anxiety

Dr Claire Oakley explains the realities of living with postnatal anxiety (PNA) and best therapeutic practices for working with this unique cohort in this specific period of their lives. She describes the statistics around PNA, risk factors, and challenges to diagnosis.

Early developmental trauma as neurodiversity

Mark Siggery explores the similarities between children who have experienced early developmental trauma and those who are neurodivergent, with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He invites you to be curious when thinking about early developmental trauma, how trauma creates changes in the brain, and how trauma affects attachments. He suggests that early developmental trauma could be thought of as a type of neurodivergence itself.

Towards a standard minimum dataset for counselling services embedded in higher and further education

Jenny O’Donnell outlines her study, which is part of the Student Counselling Outcomes Research and Evaluation (SCORE) project. Her research is in collaboration with BACP and nine universities in the UK. She explains the need for a national standard minimum data set for counselling in universities and colleges and the challenges of analysing data without a standardised data set.
