I started my application but didn’t finish it before the applications closed. Will I be able to re-open the same application?
Following our first successful wave of bursaries, the pilot scheme is now undergoing a planned internal review. Once this review is complete, we will be re-opening the scheme. Any information regarding the next wave of bursaries, including an anticipated launch date, will be posted on BACP website in due course.
Why were the applications capped at 100 for this pilot?
We felt 100 submissions were a suitable amount to process for this pilot size because we only offer 10 bursaries. However, we hope to broaden the scope of the bursaries and increase the number available.
How will the bursaries be paid?
BACP will pay course fees directly to the training institution. Course fees differ depending on whether you are an entry-level or progression-level student. BACP will pay extra costs as stated in T&Cs directly to recipients, and BACP reserves the right to request evidence of how additional funding has been spent.
Can I apply for other bursaries if I apply for the BACP bursary?
Yes, applying for this bursary doesn’t restrict you from applying for bursaries provided by other organisations.
Can I apply if I’m already studying counselling?
Yes, you may be eligible for the progression-level bursary.
What if I've never really considered counselling as profession?
We’d still encourage you to apply. We're keen to receive applications from people who use listening skills in their day-to-day work or in volunteering roles. You may already play a role in your community, such as barber, hairdresser or in a youth organisation or holy place.
How will my financial situation be taken into consideration?
Our bursaries are intended for those who need financial assistance and financial needs will be assessed as part of the application process. We understand this is a sensitive matter and all applicants will be treated with respect and understanding.
Can I submit my application via email?
No, applications must be made through the online form.
Can I make changes to my application?
While you are preparing your application, you will be able to save and update it. However, once you've submitted it, you will not be able to make any further changes or corrections, so make sure you check it thoroughly before submission.
How will I know if my application has been successful?
We would have let you know if you were successful by May 2023. We do try to notify unsuccessful applicants too, but this may not be possible due to the number of applications.
If I change my course of study, will it affect my bursary application?
Your bursary may be affected if the level of study, or the course you change to, does not meet the bursary eligibility criteria. If you change your course, you must let us know immediately so that we can confirm your bursary status and update our records.
If I am awarded a bursary and defer my course offer, can I also defer my bursary?
No, you won't be able to defer your bursary.
I’m having technical issues with the online application form, what do I do?
Please click on the help button in the bottom right-hand corner of the application form screen and one of the team will be able to help ypu.
Will you be offering further bursaries at a later date if I'm unsuccessful this time?
Once we complete this pilot scheme, we aim to develop a sustainable bursary model for the future. We hope to broaden the scope of the bursaries and increase the number available.
Will there be bursaries available for other groups in the future, for example for those with disabilities?
Following evaluation of this pilot scheme, we aim to consider expanding it to include other unrepresented parts of society to ensure that the scheme is inclusive of all the protected characteristics
Is there an age restriction on applying?
No but some centres' criteria may ask that you are of a certain age to apply for their course so it’s important to do your research.
If your question isn't covered here, please email support@blackbullion.com and they’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
