As a student member, you won’t be represented in the SCoPEd framework until you’ve qualified and joined our register. However, being a student member is an important first step to becoming a registered member and having your skills, knowledge, training and experience recognised.
During this time, you can make use of the SCoPEd framework as it offers transparent entry routes across the profession and guidance about the kind of training and career development options might be right for you in the future. You can also find out about the temporary accreditation mechanisms that enable our members to move between membership categories.
You don’t need to do anything at this stage, and we’d like to reassure you that:
- SCoPEd doesn’t change any of our student membership eligibility requirements for existing members
- you’ll be able to work towards becoming a registered member once you’ve successfully completed your training and have qualified, just as you can now
- there are no changes to the process for becoming a registered member
- once you’re a registered member you’ll be able to move between membership categories that are mapped to the standards of the SCoPEd columns should you wish to, as long as you have the right skills, knowledge, training and experience to do so
Looking ahead
Following the transition period, which is expected to finish in early 2026, all our membership category entry requirements will be fully aligned to the standards of the SCoPEd framework columns.
New accreditation schemes with new routes to move between membership categories will be available at this point. These routes will consider training and CPD alongside other existing skills and experience. More details will be published in due course.
